Meals are served restaurant-style and are cooked to order when placed. Home-made soup and a variety of salads are offered daily, along with such appetizers as jumbo shrimp cocktail or Asian spring rolls. The dinner menu includes two new entrees daily, and in addition, a full alternative menu, allowing for ample choices 365 days a year.

The Food Service Director will work with the residents to re-create a favorite recipe that they may have made for their family, affording all residents the opportunity to try their friends’ favorites sparking a lively conversation and competition!

Library:

The Edwardian décor of the library evokes an atmosphere of a gracious time gone by. There are stuffed wing back arm chairs to curl up in and windows to gaze out at the natural outside grounds.  It is a serene place to enjoy a good read!

Orchard Hill’s library is stocked with a variety of books for reading pleasure and can be read in the library or taken out, consisting of classics, recent favorites, Orchard Hill’s Book Club collection, as well as large print books.  A selection of newspapers are delivered daily to the library for the enjoyment of all the residents.

Parlor:

 The parlor is one of Orchard Hills’ sunlit rooms and is decorated in French country style. The centerpiece is a large grand piano, for residents use or for one of Orchard Hill’s scheduled trained entertainers.  Our entertainers are trained in a variety of genres from jazz to classical, as well as well-known favorites as chosen by our residents.  The parlor is one of the favorite visitation rooms for residents and family members as well as for games and lively discussion.

Wellness Office:

Orchard Hill Wellness Office is staffed with a full time Resident Care Director.  Residents have access to blood pressure, weight, pulse, or a consultation with the Nurse.  The nurse is available Monday through Friday and on call 24/7. Our certified nurse assistants (CNA’s) are in the building 24/7 and residents can contact them at any time of day or night by using their emergency pendant, worn as a necklace (or on the wrist), or speak to them by pressing the designated button on their provided Orchard Hill phone.

Orchard Hill’s smaller size facilitates our wellness nurse and CNA’s get to know the residents on a more intimate and personal level. The CNA’s provide the personal care with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) such as bathing and dressing, however interacting and assisting the residents outside of their daily personal care schedule is a welcome and enjoyable part of their day. They are often seen walking outside with residents, conversing, or out on the lawn engaging residents in a lively game of bocce or croquet. Their enthusiasm in their active approach to caring for our residents is one that lends itself to our engaging and vibrant community.

Prior to a resident moving in, the resident and family meet with the nurse for a medical evaluation to determine the level of independence, and what assistance the individual will require. The Individualized Service Plan sets forth the care Orchard Hill will be providing to that resident.  It is a living document, in that, it is amended as the resident’s needs change.

Sunroom:

Aptly named the sunroom, its floor to ceiling windows, overlooking a front outside patio, plants and birdbaths, bathe the room in various shades of light. The sunroom is the setting for a variety of recreational, educational, and cultural activities, or for sitting in the comfortable stuffed wicker chairs and enjoying a visit or a meal at one of the mosaic tables with a friend or family member.

Country Kitchen:

The country kitchen is adjacent to the sunroom and occupies the same sunny space.  Its décor is French country and boasts a large country style pine table and chairs, with a fully applianced kitchen for residents or families to use. A continental breakfast is served daily for those that do not wish to come to the dining room for the full service breakfast. Home baked muffins, freshly brewed coffee and juices are provided until late morning. Residents regularly gather in here for coffee and conversation at the table. In the afternoons the country kitchen is often used for a cooking or baking workshop, a painting or craft class, or a visiting program from the local high school. A Smoothie or Mocktail happy hour in the late afternoon is a fun way for residents to catch up on what activities or outings they have enjoyed that day.

Sundry Store:

Orchard Hill has a small sundry store where residents may purchase items such as paper towels, aspirin, shaving cream and the like. Although we provide a scheduled weekly shopping trip in our Orchard Hill van, the store is a convenient way for residents to purchase items, in the event they run out of something between shopping trips.

TeleHealth Kiosk Office:

Orchard Hill is very excited to be the First Assisted Living in Massachusetts to offer a TeleHealth Kiosk for its residents. Residents who sign up for this free service are evaluated by a VNA nurse who monitors their health data such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature weekly.  The “Kiosk” nurse makes an assessment based on the findings and communicates directly to the resident’s physician for his/her review. Due to the immediate transfer of this health information to health professionals, any problems are detected early. This increased oversight has proven to assist in keeping our residents healthy and reduce the need for hospitalizations.

Game Room:

The Orchard Hill Game Room is decorated in New England Pub style décor, with rich mahogany game tables, comfortable leather seating, a fireplace, and lots of natural light emanating from the cupola skylight above. These tables were designed with a flip table-top revealing various board games such as chess, checkers, cribbage, and cards.  The Game Room is often used by the residents for impromptu bridge or mahjong matches.

Theatre:

Orchard Hill’s theatre is designed to be comfortable and to provide optimal viewing one of comfort and designed to provide optimal viewing by all. The leather club chairs were researched and selected to provide comfort, stability and support, and ease of getting in and out.   A new movie is shown nightly following the dinner hour on the large flat screen HDTV. Popcorn is made in the theatre nightly in a delightful replica of an antique popcorn cart.

Other uses for the Theatre including a rousing game of team Wi: bowling, golf, tennis, meditation class, as well as Karaoke sing-a-longs facilitated by Orchard Hill’s recreational staff.

Billiard Room:

Also on the second floor you will find the billiard room which is frequently used by the residents for an amusing game of pool, accompanied by snacks and prizes, planned by Orchard Hill’s recreation staff.  This activity is a favorite of our male residents, creating camaraderie and a healthy and good natured competition! Family members are welcome to join in a game while visiting.  

Whirlpool Spa:

Orchard Hill has a private room with a bathing spa which is equipped with a large porcelain whirlpool tub. Warm water streams out from the therapeutic jets to aide sore muscles or to help ease aches and pains and facilitate healthy circulation. Resident’s may sign up for a private spa with an aide’s assistance at the reception desk or with the Orchard Hill wellness director.
